Student surveys have been the foundation of Panorama Education. Research has shown that well-designed student surveys can serve as valid and reliable measurement tools for measuring school climate & relationships can promote healthier school environments. These results from student surveys can provide teachers and school leaders with accurate feedback on a wide variety of students’ experiences. Unfortunately, not every student is able to participate as the current solution does not accommodate for K-3 and intellectually disabled students.

Discovery

Current solution is fully accessible via WCAG 2.0 AA standards, however, K-3 and intellectually disabled students are unable to complete the surveys without significant help from teachers if they are able to comprehend the material.

Educator Interviews

Conducted a multitude of interviews from a wide range of educators, from current clients to recruited participants, early education teachers and special education teachers.

Current Limitations

Surveys are conducted in large scrollable chunks, which make it difficult to maintain focus. The current content is far too complex for these personas, even if a teacher filled in the responses for the student, they still would not understand. Even if the content was updated, the current structure would still require a teacher to fill out the survey for the student.

Proposal

Educators need as much help as possible in the classroom and would greatly benefit from a survey tool that empowered all students to give their feedback autonomously, no matter their age or ability.

Read Aloud Button

Significantly increase student autonomy by giving them the ability to hear the question out loud.

Visual Indicators

Reduce the student's cognitive load by associating visualizations to the questions, feelings, and actions on the screen.

Color Themes

Students have the ability to customize the color scheme to their individual needs whether it be dark mode, color blind friendly, or sensory friendly colors.

Simplified Content

Questions and responses have been simplified to allow for a wider range of student reading comprehensions.

Focus on a Single Question

Educators need help with students focus. Showcasing the questions one at a time will help them guide students who need additional help through the surveys. Additionally, this will allow them to project the survey questions to walk through the process with their students.
